For Medical Professionals - Grants & Fellowships

Academic Endowment Fund

In 2011 the College established the Academic Endowment Fund. The objectives of the fund are to:

(a) offer a contribution, where required, towards the salary of College registrars in approved FACD/PhD programs under contractual agreements between the College and Australian universities; and

(b) provide support to State Faculties or Fellows of College as seed money to support efforts to establish Chairs of dermatology, academic departments or research centres of dermatology in Australian universities or hospitals.

The investment portfolio will be managed by the Audit Committee of College with the assistance and advice of the College’s investment adviser. In general terms the strategy will be to generate maximum income from a conservative investment portfolio for use in achieving the objectives of the fund. The Audit Committee, on the advice of its investment adviser, shall recommend and oversee investment strategy for the fund.

Applications for grants from the fund will be invited annually, with a closing date of 1 October. The first applications will be invited in 2012, for awarding for 2013. The Audit Committee will consider applications and make recommendations to the Board of Directors. The Audit Committee in its management of the fund may determine that it is not appropriate to make grants in any particular year, or that there are no applications of merit. In principle, a minimum amount (to be determined) will remain in the fund at all times with the interest earned forming the bulk of the money available for grants.

Subject to its assessment of the College’s financial situation, the Audit Committee may from time to time transfer to the fund other monies which are surplus to its requirements in order to increase the fund and its income. In principle, an annual contribution is envisaged.

Management of the fund shall be in accordance with the College’s accounting and auditing processes.
